Freshman Diane Phan finished off a stellar first week as an Urban Knight with a pair of victories at the number one position and a win in doubles as well. Though her team suffered an 8-1 loss to Sonoma State on Feb. 3, Phan defeated her opponent in convincing fashion 6-0, 6-1. Two days later, she contributed to Academy of Art's 9-0 sweep of Notre Dame de Namur with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over the Argonauts' top player in singles action and teamed with junior Laone "Lala" Botshoma to take an 8-1 victory home at the number one doubles slot.
Jayme Stewart
Softball
Shingle Springs, CA
Sophomore catcher Jayme Stewart led the Urban Knights offensively in their first victory of the season, an 11-6 win over Cal State Stanislaus in Game 1 of a Feb. 3 doubleheader. She was a perfect 3-for-3 in the contest with three runs batted in and one run scored. After her teammates had set the table in the first inning, Stewart came through with a two-run single to give Academy of Art an early 2-0 advantage. Then, in the fourth inning, she helped add to the lead with a sacrifice fly.
